There is no denying that the French are pioneers in the fashion industry. For decades designers across the globe have been inspired by the French lifestyle, scenery and their elegant, yet effortlessly cool style. Consisting of androgynous elements and neutral tones, while finding the perfect balance of elevated and laidback, French style icons have refined the art of timeless dressing and quite frankly, nailed it. Apéro has researched a few of our favourite French inspired fashion trends that could easily be recreated with a few key pieces.

Stripes

The first thing most think of when they hear ‘French Fashion’ is stripes. The French are renowned for perfectly pairing striped tops, knits and t-shirts with denim or neutral coloured tailored pants for an effortlessly chic look.

Tailored Pants

Androgynous outfits are iconic in Parisian street style. Feminine silhouettes, such as silk blouses, are regularly paired with masculine styles such as tailored pants and oversized blazers. Pairing these styles together creates a polished and cool look, with a feminine touch. Tailored pants are extremely versatile and are often paired back with sneakers or elevated with strappy heels.

Trench Coats

The neutral beige trench coat has long been an iconic piece of clothing influenced by French street style. Often paired with a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers, trench coats are a perfect wardrobe staple for layering and can be worn from Autumn through to Spring.

Button Down Shirt

Whether it is striped or plain white, we can all agree that one of the key wardrobe staples that every woman should own is the old faithful button down shirt. Inspired by the French woman’s love of versatility and easy-wearing outfits, the button down shirt can pull together any outfit. Often paired with straight-legged jeans and sneakers for a laidback, on-the-run look or worn with tailored pants and heels for afternoon apéritifs with loved ones.
